Cross Laminated Timber Presentation by Andrei Rizea

On December 2, 2022, CTA Architecture + Design  enjoyed a presentation on Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). CLT is proprietary engineered wood product that is prefabricated using several layers of kiln-dried lumber, laid flat-wise, and glued together on their wide faces. This wood is light and durable and not highly flammable. It is slow burning and embers so should a fire arise it enables individuals to exit safely. The CLT wood is environmentally friendly as in the preparation of the wood panels does create too many CO2 emissions comparatively when being created. Additionally, this wood is aesthetically pleasing and it creates for a good design in the architectural space. That being said, this is a precise wood that needs to be installed with expertise. If the CLT wood is being installed with other wood it needs to be installed by an expert who is aware of the intricacies of combining the woods. There are many benefits to using this wood and should be highly considered in different architectural designs as it provides an elegant design solution.
